Lose your life for Christ…

Gospel: Matthew 10:37-42

Friends, in today’s Gospel Jesus said to His Apostles, “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of Me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me, and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.” “Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.”

What does Jesus mean when He said this to His apostles? Jesus mean only one thing, “Nothing should replace Him in their lives!” He alone can satisfy their hunger and thirst, and deep yearning. External things, or rewards which seems to satisfy cannot really suffice them.

And this is all the same for us! As disciples of the Lord Jesus, He wants us to center Himself in all our lives, in all our relationships. He wants us to make Himself our priority and no other else; things or mammon which cannot really satisfy our desires. No one should replace Jesus as number one in our lives. If we want to find our lives we must lose it for the sake of Christ. Because if we find ourselves now in the comforts of the world, in our pleasures, and we place our affections upon them, certainly we will loose our lives. The prophet Isaiah would always reminds us that, “All flesh is grass and all the glory thereof as the flower of the field. The grass is withered, and the flower is fallen.” So mans glory seem to flourish and appears great, but falls away and dies before it has come to its full bloom, for what duration is there in the flesh? And what stability in the pleasures of the world?

Maybe, today, we are strong, young, beautiful, healthy, flourishing in life, rich, admired by many, living in luxury, with abundance of material things, of beautiful houses, cars, and etc. But how about tomorrow? St. Ambrose said, “But if he continues moderately happy as to temporal concerns till death, and places his affections on them, he have found life here, but shall lose it in the next world. But he shall, for the sake of Christ, deprive himself of the pleasures of this life, shall receive the reward of hundredfold in the next.” And deprivation of life here on earth means to ‘take up ones cross daily!’

Am I centering Jesus in my life? Am I finding my life here on earth and losing heaven?

Prayer: Abba, thank You for another day. Thank You for giving us Jesus our Lord and Saviour. Thank you for all the graces which we have received from your Divine Providence. May we able to use all the gifts we received for the greater glory of Your name. May we center Jesus in our lives always. Through our Lord JEsus Christ Your Son who Lives with You in unity of the Holy SPirit, One God forever and ever. Amen.
