Dance when the flute is played…

Wednesday of the Twenty-Forth Week in Ordinary Time/ St. Cornelius, Pope & St. Cyprian, Bishop/ September 16, 2020

Gospel: Luke 7:31-35

Friends, our Lord Jesus in today’s Gospel compared the people of His generation “to a children who sit on marketplace and call to one another,” “we played the flute for you but you did not dance. We sang a dirge but you did not weep.” And He further said, “John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine, and you said, he is possessed by a demon.” “The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said, “Look he is a glutton and drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” A people who are hard to please!

But, I say that, these are also applicable for us today! Not only of Jesus’ generation. If we look at our situation today, we have a lot of means to help us grow in our inner life, in our faith! We have the scriptures, the Tradition of the Church, the sacraments, the example of the saints, the missionaries! “The flute is played for us. The dirge is also sang! Yet, still we don’t believe. We don’t accept! It seems that we are hard to please! The food is already offered for us in the table but, still we look for another. It was already clear in the History, Christ offering of salvation for all, yet many doubted and don’t believe. Jesus even channeled more His love and salvific power through the Church, the Bishops and the Priest, yet many do not accept rather condemned Christ instruments. They even mocked and cursed. Really, like the people of Christ generation.

Friends, this reminds us of God’s love and care for us! We need not to lose graces which continually offered for all of us! We need to received with a joyful and humble heart before the Lord. We need to dance whenever the flute is played!

Abba, thank You for all the graces and blessings You have bestowed on us everyday. Thank you for Your continuous love and care for us. May we who receive your abundant blessings and love, share to others for the betterment of Your Kingdom. Through our Lord JEsus Christ Your SOn who lives with You in uNity of the Holy SPirit, One God forever and ever. Amen.
