Gospel: Matthew 22:34-40
Friends, in today’s Gospel Jesus, answered the lawyer, a Pharisee who tested Him about which commandment of the law is the greatest. He said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. This is the first and the most important. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Everything is founded on these two commandments. If you will say that you love God, without respecting, caring, and loving your neighbor, you are a liar. However, if you will say otherwise is the same. So, the love of God and our neighbor is the backbone of society, and without these two commandments, all other laws are meaningless. These should not be separated from each other.
How do we love God? We do love God by being obedient to His will, and by being obedient we mean that we foremost strengthen our relationship with Him through prayers, then, we live out His commandment of love so that we may become channels of love towards our brethren.
Prayer
Abba, You have loved us so much, may we always follow the mandates of Your Son so that we will fulfill what You desire in our lives. Through our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
