Gospel: Matthew 25:14-30
Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus told his disciples a parable about talents. In this parable, Jesus shows how God’s values work. Service is measured not by the sheer quantity of net results but by the degree to which people can increase their God-given share. The first servant who received five talents was able to increase and made another five. The second servant who received two talents was able also to increase another two. However, the third servant did nothing with the talent he received, even putting it into the bank to have an interest, so that when the master returns, he can have the money and the interest. But because he did nothing, he was condemned.
It is a good reminder also for all of us, who received a lot of talents and graces from God. We must not waste it. We must invest so that it will produce a lot of fruits.
Abba, our Loving Father, thank You for giving us talents to use for the Kingdom of God, may these talents bring us always closer to You and to others. Through our Lord Jesus Christ Your Son who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
