“God will reward you”

August 28, 2022/ 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel: Lk 14:1.7-14

Friends, in today’s Gospel Jesus calls our attention to the two sets of people he addresses: those who have been invited and those who invite. First, to those who have been invited, Jesus says, ‘when you are invited, go and take the lowest place so that when the host comes to you he may say, ‘My friend, move up to a higher position.” This is the way of humility. We should never seek attention and choose the highest place of honor.  Second, to those who invite. When you ask someone to a thanksgiving celebration, do not invite those who have the capacity to pay you back, instead invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. If you do this, your reward will be in heaven. God will pay you back fully.

Abba, bless us always. Bless our hearts and minds so that we may be humble and faithful to you. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen.
